Nothing but net is a single channel video (2016, time: 14:33) produced using an overhead projector with plexiglas plates that were used to also produce a series of monotypes (with Marina Ancona / 10 Grand Press).
Downey works on the surface of the overhead using colored gels, cut shapes, inks, and other mixed media, and films the resulting projection on the wall. Using their own body as material, they interact with these projections, drawing attention to the boundaries between self and an intimate other, as well as the relationship between language and their body.  The imagery and text depict various forms of intimacy, with quick shifts between aggression, play, and tenderness. This video is invested in sensorial experience, privileging haptic relationships and experimentation with different media.
