And I always will, a 10-minute video performance, draws from my high school archives—love letters, photos, objects, and audio/video—to explore the question of why I obsessively preserved these things. It feels as though by entrusting these materials to a future self, I enabled my present self to come into being. Thirty years later, I consider whether my current self is better equipped to process these memories, thereby allowing that past self to endure.

Press Release

Essex Flowers Presents the 11th Annual Flowers Fest
Two weekends of performances, readings, screenings, and sound in downtown Manhattan

[September 5-14, 2025] Essex Flowers is thrilled to announce the return of Flowers Fest, the gallery’s late-summer tradition now celebrating its 11th edition. Since its inception, Flowers Fest has provided a platform in downtown Manhattan for performance, sound, and experimental practices — offering artists and audiences a space beyond the confines of traditional exhibition. More than just a festival, Flowers Fest has cultivated a spirited energy celebrating over a hundred artists and their boundary pushing work. This year, the festival expands its reach, doubling the number of participating artists and presenting over 15 hours of live programming across two weekends. The 2025 lineup brings together 27 acts, spanning music, sound, performance, readings, and film. Highlights include:

Musicians & Sound Artists: Eric Gabriel, Walnut Falcons, Jantar, Jaysun Silver, Kris Piña

Performances: Kerry Downey, Lucia Love, Hannah Bang + Ping Ho, Conrad Cheung, Darius Carter, Andrea Moreno, June Seo, Lola Libre, Amy Beecher, Paula de Martino, Staver Klitgaard with Casey McSherry

Readings: JM Hamade, Andrew Lampert, Zachary Delamater

Screenings: Abby Lloyd, Abraham Adams, Nechama Winston, Laura Horne, Bella Thorpe-Woods

Special Feature: For the first time, a collaboration with Banana Ketchup & Makati Comedy Showcase, bringing stand-up and experimental comedy into the fold.

Flowers Fest has always been about creating a space for artists to experiment freely — without limits. This year, the energy is louder, bigger, and more expansive than ever before. This festival runs across two weekends, September 5-7 and September 12-14. All performances begin at 6:00 PM at Essex Flowers, 19 Monroe Street, New York, NY 10002.

Essex Flowers' front entrance and front gallery are wheelchair accessible. Our back gallery is accessible through a side entrance (please speak with the gallery sitter upon arrival). Our bathroom is not wheelchair accessible.
